Afghan government and Indian firm on Sunday signed $25 million agreement for electricity generation and irrigation project in northern Kunduz province.

The contract was signed between Acting Minister of Ministry of Energy and Water Mohammad Gul Khulmi and a representative of Lanco Infratech Limited in the presence of President Ashraf Ghani in the presidential palace.

The project is expected to generate 10.4 megawatts of electricity and irrigate 47,000 hectares of agricultural land in Khan Abad district. 18,000 families are expected to benefit directly from the project, the Presidential Palace said in short statement.
