The former Afghan spy chief and the leader of Afghanistan Green Trend, Amrullah Saleh reacted at the resignation of the former National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar.
Calling the resignation of Atmar a major loss for the Unity Government, Saleh said he (Atmar) is a balanced thinker and a sound strategist with patience and strength who could reach out to critics of the government at hard times.
“It seems there is an intense conflict within the entourage of Ashraf Ghani which stems from his insecurity. Seemingly he doesn’t put trust in his team and has created an environment of mistrust using factions against each other at the expense of internal cohesion,” Saleh added.
Atmar announced his resignation earlier on Saturday, describing the existing political issues as the main motive behind his decision to step down.
In his resignation to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Atmar said he is stepping down from his position due to the existing differences he had with the government leadership on political level as well the government’s approach in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
However, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said he has accepted the resignation of Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the former National Security Adviser, considering the grand national interests.
He made the remarks during a ceremony to introduce the newly-appointed National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohibm on Sunday.
“Accepting the resignation of a friend and long term colleague was a difficult decision but the decision was supposed to be taken considering the national interests of the country,” President Ghani said.
