President Ashraf Ghani and US special representative on Sunday discussed future steps in the peace process.
A statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said Ghani met Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad in the morning.
Both sides discussed next steps in the Afghan peace process and duration of reduction in violence in the country.
The statement said 1st Vice-President Amrullah Saleh was also present during the meeting, which came a day after planned release of Taliban prisoner was delayed.
