The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission has removed the names of at least 35 people from the final list of the candidates for the upcoming parliamentary election.
The names of the candidates were removed after a special commission reviewed complaints lodged against the candidates for having links with irresponsible armed groups and other violations of law.
The candidates removed from the list included Mohibullah, Ahmad Shah Shams, and Amanullah Hotaki from southern Uruzgan province.
Abdul Rahman Shaeedani has been removed from the list of candidates who was due to contest from Bamyan while Fawzia Koofi, Maryam Koofi, Mohammad Nabi Bayan, and Abdul Samad Abdul Hameed have been removed from the list of the contestants from Badakhshan.
Asadullah Sharifi has been removed from the contestants’ list from Balkh while Syed Jafar Naderi, Asadullah Islamzoi and Hayatulalh Wafa have been droped from Baghlan.
Ghulam Haidar Jilani and Noor Ahmad Sikandar have been removed from the list of contestants from Parwan while Allah Mir and Nawid Ibrahimkhel have been removed from Paktia along with Bashir Qanet and Asadullah Ayoub who were due to contest in the elections from Takhar province.
The other contestants, whose names have been removed from the list, included Liaqullah Babarkhel and Jabar Jabarkhel from Khost, Masooma Khawari and Mohammad Asif Azimi together with Raees Khairullah from Samangan.
The commission has also removed the names of Sakhi Nawid who was due to contest from Faryab, Qais Hassan, Mawlavi Tara Khel, Syed Daud Naderi, Sedaqat Zahid, Zia Ul Haq Amarkhel, Ehsanullah Atif, Sher Ali Ahmadzai and Zardad Faryadi from Kabul.
Shaista Baz Naseri has been removed from the list of candidates from Kunduz with Akbar Stanikzai from Logar and Jawid Zaman from Nangarhar.
Among the disqualified are some strongmen that can create trouble in Kabul.
