Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Afghan Parliament, again failed to elect speaker for the house.

Election for the speaker slot went to third round on Tuesday as none of the candidates won the necessary 50%+1 votes from the present lawmakers.

First round of the poll for the chairmanship held soon after the house began work, but the process turned controversial because of a vote with an extra dot apart from the tick mark.

After almost a two months impasse, the house on Monday decided to go for the second round of election with new faces as candidates. Waqif Hakimi, Jawid Jaihoon and Mir Afghan Safi were running for the speaker position, but none managed to win the threshold, so a runoff was held between Jaihoon and Safi. Neither of them succeeded to win 50%+1 votes, so the election went for the third round.

Lawmakers decided to hold the third round of poll for chairmanship on Wednesday.
