A number of candidates in Afghanistan’s presidential election have threatened a boycott unless the government accepts their demands.
In a statement, the Council of Presidential Candidates which includes 12 out of 18 candidates, said that the Independent Election Commission should act according to election law or they will revoke confidence from the commission.
The statement said that the appointments and dismissals by National Unity Government leaders are illegal as they would facilitate orchestration of the vote in favor of the ruling team.
The statement also referred to a political plan presented to the government, apparently that which calls for establishment of a caretaker government to cover delay to the election.
The election is scheduled to be held on September 28.
On Saturday, IEC announced launch of supplementary voter registration, but only 714 people signed up across the country on the first day.
The 20-day process is expected to cost $23 million.
