820 Afghan Families Return to Their Homeland from Pakistan, Iran

A total of 820 Afghan families returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran yesterday, according to the Afghanistan Refugee and Repatriation Commission. The commission confirmed the return of these families, who were provided with various forms of assistance upon their arrival.

In a statement released by the commission’s secretariat, it was reported that on May 8, 242 families, comprising 1,500 individuals, returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border. These families were registered and biometrically processed.

Additionally, 188 families, with 973 members, were transferred to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Kabul. They were provided with a total of 561,700 Afghanis for transportation costs.

At the Torkham border, a further 293 families received 2.32 million Afghanis in assistance.

Meanwhile, at the Spin Boldak border, 214 families, totaling 1,127 members, returned to Afghanistan, where they were also registered and assisted. The families were given 1.1 million Afghanis for their return and resettlement.

The statement further noted that 143 families, with 635 members, returned from Iran via the Nimroz province on May 8, and were provided with 1.1 million Afghanis. This route also saw 1,717 individuals return home.

The commission also reported that 221 families from Herat province’s Islam Kala border, with 873 members, returned on the same day, and were given 1.61 million Afghanis.

In addition, 133 families from Kabul, totaling 745 people, were transferred to various provinces, including Ghazni, Logar, Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Baghlan, Takhar, Balkh, Jowzjan, and Kunduz. These families were given 409,300 Afghanis to cover their relocation expenses.

The commission’s Information and Public Awareness Committee has also been providing valuable guidance to the returning families about registration, transport, financial assistance, temporary accommodation, and the Islamic state. Furthermore, 409,300 SIM cards have been distributed to the returnees to assist them with communication.
