Eight people were killed and 40 others wounded on Tuesday when a passenger bus struck a roadside bomb in western Farah province, an official said.
Nasir Mehri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on the Farah-Herat highway in the Farah Rod area of Bala Baluk district at 4am.
He said the bus heading to Farah City from Herat hit the roadside mine, killing eight people, including a woman. Twenty of the injured in critical condition were moved to the zonal hospital.
Herat Zonal Hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai confirmed receiving two injured women, two children and two men.
Mehri accused the Taliban of planting the landmine. The militant movement, however, has not yet commented on the bombing.
