At least six civilians have been killed in an Afghan forces airstrike in central Logar province, while the government officials claim those killed were militants.
Logar provincial council deputy head, Abdul Wali Wakil, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan air force targeted a civilian vehicle in Charkh district of the province.
“In this vehicle, some elderly people were returning after meeting the Taliban for the release of a young man who was detained by the insurgent group,” he said.
He said six civilians were killed in the attack and the victims belonged to Mohammad Agha district of Logar.
A resident of Dehnaw area, Bilal, also said that all the people killed in the airstrike were civilians.
“Few days back, Taliban captured a young man from our village in connection of having links with the government, these people met the Taliban for releasing that man but they all were killed in an airstrike,” he said.
He identified the victims as Jamal Din, Abdul Mobin, Asadullah, Mohammadullah, Mohammada Jan and Dawajan.
However, Logar police spokesman, Shapor Ahmadzai, said that Afghan air forces targeted a Taliban vehicle in Dabara area of Charkh district.
He said that six Taliban rebels were killed in the incident.
Taliban confirmed the airstrike. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said that US forces killed six civilians in an airstrike in Charkh district Sunday night.
Charkh is located 30 kilometers south of Pul-I-Alam, the provincial capital. Most of its areas are under the Taliban control.
