At least 54 people, including security personnel, have been released from Taliban’s captivity in southern Helmand province, the military said on Tuesday.
A statement from the 215th Maiwand Military Crops said the security forces raided a Taliban jail in Musa Qala district late on Monday night.
It added 33 civilians, 15 policemen, four ANA personnel and two doctors were freed as a consequence of the raid. The security forces suffered no casualties during the overnight operation.
At least four Taliban were captured during the raid, which was also verified by Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman. He said the security forces were still in the area after transferring the freed people to the Maiwand military base.
Taliban have not yet commented on the raid.
