A positive coronavirus case has been registered in the northern province of Samangan, officials at the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.
This is the first time that a coronavirus case was registered in north of Afghanistan.
“In the past 24 hours, a positive coronavirus, or Covid-19 case, has been registered in Samangan province, and it brings the total positive cases to 5,” said Wahidullah Mayar, a spokesman for Ministry of Public Health, adding that “four of the other cases are registered in Herat province.”
The man who has coronavirus in Samangan returned from Iran three days ago and “now he is under treatments at the Samangan hospital,” Mayar said.
“In total we have had 142 suspected cases in which 137 of them were negative,” he added.
Before this, four positive cases were registered the western province of Herat, a province that borders Iran.
Recently, the residents of Herat said they are increasingly worried by the outbreak of the coronavirus, which is affecting businesses in the province along with threatening the health of individuals.
People suspected of being infected by the virus have been admitted to Herat’s provincial hospital.
Previously, the Afghan government allocated $15 million to respond to the health emergency.
