45 killed in traffic incidents on Kabul-Jalalabad road this year

At least 45 people lost their lives and around 100 others injured in traffic accidents on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway in eastern Laghman province this year, officials said Monday.

The officials said traffic accidents resulted from the road’s narrowness and negligence of drivers.

Isa Khan, an official at the Laghman traffic department, told Pajhwok Afghan News 50 traffic accidents had been registered on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway this year.

He said 32 accidents caused casualties to passengers and 17 other accidents caused financial losses. He said at least 45 people had been killed and another 94 wounded in these incidents.

Abdul Basir, a driver on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, told Pajhwok most of the drivers go fast on order from passengers. He urged the government to take measures for widening the road.

Baidar Zazi, another diver, held similar view and urged the government to take some steps for decreasing of traffic on the highway.

Ihsanullah, who has job in Kabul and travels each Thursday to Jalalabad, said due to his poor economic situation, he could not rent a home in Kabul and did not go home often fearing accident on the road.

Mohammad Abid, a student at Kabul University whose home is in Nangarhar, said due to careless driving, such accidents happened on the highway.
