The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday said around 43,000 people had so far registered as voters within eight days of the ongoing registration drive ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Earlier, the IEC had announced launching a 20-day voter registration process for the Sept 28 presidential election.

A few days back, IEC secretary Habib Rahman Nang told a press conference the voter registration would continue until June 29.

He had added the registration was aimed at documenting eligible voters who had not registered before, had reached the legal age recently or who had not attached stickers to their ID cards.

According to Nang, voters will be listed at 705 registration centers — 247 in southern Ghazni and the rest in other provinces.

Shima Sarosh, deputy spokesman of IEC, told Pajhwok Afghan News since the launch of the registration process, nearly 43,000 people had registered as voters which included 14,000 women and more than 370 Kochis.
