Taliban gunmen reportedly killed 40 people including local police and their family members in the Khak-e-Sufai district of western Farah province, provincial lawmaker said Monday.
Citing Dadullah Qane, deputy of provincial council, the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP reported that Taliban fighters conducted group attacks on the posts and houses of local police in the Khost area of Khak-e-Sufai on Sunday night, killing 40 people.
Besides local police, their family members and relatives including children, women and elderly people were among the dead, he (AIP).
He said the Taliban also torched the houses of local police, adding a vehicle bomb detonated during the clash wherein four Taliban including a local commander were killed.
There was no word by provincial security officials in this regard.
Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi said in a statement that 30 local police and pro-government militiamen were killed in the Khost area of Khak-e-Sufaid district.
He claimed that numerous police and militiamen were also wounded and a large number of weapons were seized by Taliban.
In another development, Taliban attacked security forces’ posts in different areas of Farah City, capital of Farah province, last Sunday night, killing six police and capturing 10 others, the provincial council member said.
Ahmadi confirmed attacks in the limits of Farah city, saying several police were killed and wounded and some others were arrested by Taliban.
