22 killed in Sar-i-Pul suicide bombing

Twenty-two people, including seven Taliban, were killed in a suicide blast targeting a funeral ceremony in the Sayyad district of northern Sar-i-Pul province on Tuesday, an official said.
Police Chief Abdul Qayuom Baqizoy, told Pajhwok Afghan News, the blast happened at around 2:30 pm local time in the Ajeram village. Fifteen civilians and seven Taliban had been killed in the bombing, he added.
Baqizoy said some people got injured in the blast and shifted to the hospital. He did not clarify the commiseration ceremony belonged to whom, adding some Taliban members also participated in the event.
No group claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.
The Taliban and the Islamic State group have been waging bitter battles in recent days in northern Afghanistan. As many as 100 insurgents from both the Taliban and Islamic State group have perished in recent battles, said Baqizoi.
Provincial council chief Mohammed Noor Rahman, however, said the explosion occurred in a mosque as a funeral was taking place.
