2 Female Soldiers Killed in Gunmen Attack in Balkh

At least two female ANA soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in a gunmen attack on an army vehicle in Balkh province on Tuesday morning, local officials said. 

The attack happened in PD5 of Mazar-e-Sharif, capital of Balkh province, targeting an army vehicle which was carrying female soldiers and officers, said Mohammad Haneef Rezae, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 209 Shaheen Corps.

“The attack happened while the soldiers and officers were on their way to the military corps. Gunmen opened fire on their vehicle,” he said, adding that “Two female soldiers were killed and three others including their driver–a man–was wounded.”

He said investigations are ongoing.

No group including the Taliban immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
