Sixteen security personnel have been killed and two others wounded in a Taliban attack in northern Baghlan province, local sources said on Saturday.
A security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News a clash erupted between security forces and Taliban in the Angor Bagh area of Baghlan district late on Friday night.
He said nine Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and seven policemen were killed, two wounded and three others captured by the insurgents.
Khanzada, a resident of the area, confirmed the clash. However, he was unaware of casualties.
Syed Kamal, a tribal elder, said at least 20 security personnel suffered casualties in the firefight. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
