Fourteen Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel have been killed in a Taliban attack in northern Kunduz province, a public representative said on Monday.

Deputy Chairman of Provincial Council Safiullah Amir said the Taliban stormed the Seh Darak check-post on Sunday night killing 14 soldiers and wounding three others.

Ahmad Kamal, a resident of the locality, confirmed the assault and said the Taliban also burned two armored vehicles of the ANA. “The fire fight continued all night long. We heard more than 10 people have been killed and injured.”

Meanwhile, the Pamir Military Corps confirmed the Taliban attack on the checkpoint. Five security personnel were killed and three others injured, it said.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Zabihullah Mujahid, the rebel group’s spokesperson, said 19 security personnel were killed and a number of military vehicles were torched.
