The Paktika Refugees and Repatriation Department has successfully completed the construction of 1,000 residential houses for families affected by recent earthquakes in the Gyan district of Paktika province.
The homes were officially handed over to the deserving families in a ceremony attended by local officials and representatives from international organizations.
Mawlavi Hamdullah Fateh, Director of the Paktika Refugees and Repatriation Department, announced that the project was funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at an estimated cost of $7.8 million.
In addition to the homes, the initiative includes the establishment of a school, a hospital, and other essential facilities designed to assist the local community.
Arafat Jamal, Chief Representative of UNHCR, highlighted the organization’s 40-year commitment to aiding Afghanistan and assured that support for the region will continue.
Mawlavi Osama, representing the provincial governor, expressed appreciation to cooperating institutions and emphasized the need for ongoing projects to benefit the vulnerable populations of Paktika.
