At least 10 policemen were killed and six others injured in an attack at a police station in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Monday morning, said police.
A group of unknown attackers stormed the Chaudhwan police station in the Dera Ismail Khan district, using sniper guns, automatic rifles and hand grenades, police sources told Xinhua.
The deceased include six officers from the Elite Force of Police from the Swabi district, who were deployed in the area after an increase in attacks ahead of the general elections to be held on Thursday.
Before the arrival of the police and security forces, the attackers managed to escape the site to an unknown location, local media reported.
Police added that all roads leading to the area have been sealed and a search operation has been launched.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
