The Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA) has announced the provision of telecommunication services for returnees at the Omari Camp in Torkham.
Jalaluddin Shams, the spokesperson for ATRA, stated that alongside the activation of mobile network antennas for returnees at the camp, temporary four-month SIM cards are also being distributed to them.
The ATRA spokesperson said: “These SIM cards are provided for a period of four months. Returnees are required to legally register their SIM cards with electronic ID cards within that time frame.”
Mohammad Hashim Maiwandwal, head of the Information Committee at Omari Camp, said: “Facilities have been provided for us. Internet service is active in the camp and covers a distance of two and a half kilometers. The internet is functioning, and we are pleased.”
Meanwhile, returnees from Pakistan staying at Omari Camp in Torkham have welcomed the provision of telecommunication services by ATRA.
One returnee: “Each family is provided with three SIM cards, and these SIM cards have fulfilled our needs.”
Hedayatullah, another returnee, said: “With the distribution of three SIM cards, many of our major problems have been solved; the SIM cards include free internet and free minutes.”
According to ATRA, three free SIM cards, equipped with internet and free call minutes, are being distributed by designated teams of the authority to each migrant family.
