(Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday formally launched the candidate registration process for next year’s presidential vote.
The registration process for the presidential hopefuls would continue for 12 days. The candidates can approach the poll panel for registration from today.
A preliminary list of the presidential runners will be announced on January 8. Each wannabe is required to be a Muslim citizen of Afghanistan and having attained the age of 40 years.
Every candidate should have 100,000 stickers, should not have a criminal record, or involvement in human rights violations, civil rights. The payment of a million afghanis is among another condition.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, deputy spokesman for IEC, said the distribution of information kits regarding the election began on Wednesday. The information bundles could be received online as well.
The IEC has not yet announced winning candidates for Wolesi Jirga from Kabul, Paktia, Baghlan and Nangarhar provinces. But Ibrahimi said preliminary results from the remaining provinces would be announced this week.
The presidential polls will be held on April 20, 2019.
