Khost Exports $11 Million in Dried Fruits to Global Markets

Afghanistan’s Khost province has made significant strides in the international market, exporting $11 million worth of dried fruits this year. The exports include a variety of dried fruits such as figs, pistachios, almonds, melons, raisins, dried apricots, and quarter-nuts.

Nawab Amirzai, head of the Khost Chamber of Commerce and Investment, reported that a total of 4,500 tons of dried fruits were shipped to global markets, marking an increase compared to previous years.

The primary buyers include countries like India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, China, the UK, Germany, Canada, Uzbekistan, and the United States.

Officials are optimistic about the future of Afghanistan’s dried fruit industry. Amirzai emphasized that with increasing yields, the country is on track to become one of the largest exporters of dried fruits.

Mustaghafar Garbaz, spokesman for the Khost governor, noted that local authorities are working to enhance production and exports by supporting farmers and traders. Efforts are underway to create better facilities for traders and improve marketing strategies in international markets.

Farmers and gardeners in Khost have expressed their appreciation for the support provided by the Islamic Emirate, which has aimed to boost yields and expand export opportunities.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Afghanistan’s total dried fruit exports have reached a remarkable $350 million this year, highlighting the sector’s potential as a key driver of economic growth in the region.
