Meshrano Jirga or upper house of parliament on Sunday stressed early holding of the long-delayed parliamentary election and warned that further delay in this regard was unacceptable.
The government has hinted at holding elections to lower house next year, however no exact date has so far been given.

Senator Mohammad Hashim Alkozai from southern Helmand province demanded the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the government announce a date for the parliamentary election as soon as possible.
His colleague from Uruzgan province Mohammad Hanif Hanafi made the same demand, which he termed as necessary for the nascent democracy in the country.

An election date be announced soon so that people could prepare themselves, the lawmaker said, stressing awareness about the important process among the masses.

Senate chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said the Independent Election Commission (IEC) should work for holding of the elections at the earlist and share their programme with the people.
He asked the government to task the authorities concerned with making full preparations for the ballot.
