The Central Asia-South Asia (CASA-1000) electricity supply project could not be completed on schedule due to a delay in the award of a contract for converter stations following a request from a French company, a media report said on Sunday.

Afghanistan's national power utility on Saturday signed contracts with two Indian firms over distribution of electricity in the country's three provinces.

The projects are worth $55.8 million which will be financed by the Asian Development Bank in non-refundable manner.

More than $700m USD invested in poultry sector

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MoAI), more than $700 million USD has been invested in poultry farms and bird seed production in the country in the past few years.

Poultry farms have seen significantly growth in southern Kandahar province in the recent years, with 500 million afghanis invested in the roaring business.

Currently, 470 poultry farms are operational in Kandahar, with 12 of them producing eggs and the rest providing chickens to meets 70 percent of the provincial demand.
