McMaster’s visit to India came following stops at Kabul and Islamabad as part of regional consultations under new U.S. President Donald Trump.
U.S. Embassy in India in a statement said that McMaster had productive meetings with PM Modi, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
McMaster emphasized the importance of the U.S.-India strategic relations and reaffirmed India’s designation as a “Major Defense Partner,” the statement said.
The sides also talked about a range of bilateral and regional issues including their shared interest in increasing defense and counterterrorism cooperation, according to the statement.
McMaster’s visit to the region comes amid calls by Afghanistan and India on U.S. to put pressure on Pakistan for supporting Taliban militants.
In Islamabad, McMaster asked officials to combat terror in all forms
