An influential US lawmaker has sought support from the Trump administration and the international community for the presidential elections in Afghanistan.
Senator Lindsey Graham hoped global support for September 28 vote would ensure the Afghans succeeded in the face of terror.
In a statement, the senator said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the Afghan people as they bravely chart a new course for their nation and firmly reject terrorism.”
He added the democratic process would give Afghanistan a new partner to work with — the United States and the international community.
This would make sure Afghanistan continued to move forward as the country embraced democracy, Graham concluded.
