70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties Celebrated Between Afghanistan and China

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan celebrated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties with China today, Monday in Kabul.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, addressed the gathering, highlighting China’s historical support for Afghanistan during its struggles against the former Soviet Union and American occupation.

He emphasized the importance of the relationship, noting that China has maintained a peaceful border with Afghanistan and urged continued support for the Islamic Emirate on international platforms.

Deputy Foreign Minister Stanikzai reiterated the Afghan government’s commitment to an economy-oriented policy aimed at fostering positive relations globally, particularly with neighboring countries. He assured that Afghanistan’s territory would not pose a threat to any nation, including China.

Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, echoed these sentiments, stating that China has maintained robust relations with Afghanistan throughout history, irrespective of changing circumstances. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting stability in Afghanistan, respecting its territorial integrity, and refraining from interference in internal affairs.

Ambassador Zhao also highlighted the invitation of 12 high-level delegations from the Islamic Emirate to China over the past three years, underscoring the depth of their diplomatic ties. Additionally, he called on the United States to release Afghanistan’s frozen assets, emphasizing the need for financial support to aid the country’s recovery.

The celebration was not only attended by Afghan and Chinese diplomats, but also included businessmen, university professors, and other officials, reflecting the broad interest in strengthening bilateral relations.
