A Taliban-fired mortar shell struck a civilian home in the Greshk district of southern Helmand province, killing six members of a family, an official said on Monday.
The district police chief, Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight incident killed six people, including women and children. Six others were wounded.
Mohammad Saleem Rodwal, the district’s administrative chief, confirmed the incident and said the Taliban targeted several security check-posts and used heavy and light weapons.
Separately, the militants detonated a bomb on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. The road was damaged and passengers were inconvenienced, he added.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents.
